The Digital Media/Hospitality and Culinary students at Kealakehe High School ventured on a day long field ┬átrip to Waipi’o Valley on Friday September 7th, 2018 with teachers, Karen Sheff and Randy Shelor. The students rode the one mile road down to the valley in 4WD vehicles as the road, at 25% grade, is the steepest in America. The group was greeted by a group of feral horses who call the valley home.

The destination was the taro farm owned by a local family who have been growing taro for decades. The students heard from Uncle Butchie who spoke of his family growing up in the valley.

Here are the students own observations about their trip.
